Tips for Installing Insulation
The main purpose of insulation in homes is to provide a thermal barrier that
protects the walls, ceilings and floors from heat reduction. Most people are not
aware about the proper method of installing insulation in housing projects,
particularly if gaps are present, which can result in poor performance of the
insulation.
Conditions for Proper Insulation
* Quality installations are ensured by an adequate bidding and contracting
process.
* Contractors and proper field superintendents are required.
* Installation should be applied without gaps and correspond with the
appropriate R- value.
* Insulation could be harmed by excessive compression.
* A thermal barrier should exist between the outside and inside walls.
Thermal Envelope
Things to consider in order to achieve proper efficiency of the insulation:
* Fill in all cavities and check for gaps, reducing them if possible.
* Note the material's water permeability, flammability and settling.
* Avoid compressing the insulation.
Insulating Walls
Cavities should be filled using batt installation, which has two types: faced
installation and unfaced installation. The wiring and plumbing should at least
mesh perfectly within the wall, or else the increase in the gaps will cause
potential problems in the future.
Insulating Attics
For attics, loose fill batt or blanket insulation can be used, but the
recommended method is to use a blown or spray type of insulation like wet
cellulose or polyurethane. Some cases could require the insulation to be
professionally installed, so you have the option of having several contractors
